Abundance of write-ins slow Luzerne County primary results

Luzerne County Administrative Services Division Head David Parsnik still was compiling a list of primary election write-in winners Wednesday because there were so many. Only six of 76 municipalities met or exceeded the minimum number of both Republican and Democratic candidates for all available seats on last week’s ballot: Hazleton and five townships – Black Creek, Lake, Rice, Sugarloaf and Wright.

New study shows lagging emergency response time in some Luzerne County municipalities

In 15 Luzerne County municipalities, emergency medical responders took more than 16 minutes to arrive on scene for at least 30 percent of calls, a new state study shows. The state used 16 minutes as a benchmark because the data showed 90 percent of all response times countywide were at or below that amount, the study says.

Freeland Magisterial District will be eliminated in May

District Judge Gerald L. Feissner’s retirement plans have pushed up the timetable for eliminating the Freeland Magisterial District 11-3-05 over which he presides, Luzerne County President Judge Thomas F. Burke Jr. said Friday.
